THE POST is a unique urban coastal campus, created around an irreplaceable San Diego landmark, the former Midway United States Post Office. The concept for THE POST is inspired by the original design strength and simplicity of an envelope.

ENVELOPE:
a communication carrier allowing people to connect.

Much like the moment of excitement when opening a card or a package, THE POST evokes an emotional response, an anticipation of what’s inside and then an awe at the scale of what you have found within.

THE POST provides people with space to inspire, communicate, and connect. Its design unfolds to create moments of discovery throughout; bold concrete forms are softened with natural interventions, and rich color accents.

THE RESULT IS A MODERN AND TIMELESS ICON.

Heritage

1925

Ryan Airlines begins the first regularly scheduled passenger service connecting San Diego and Los Angeles from Dutch Flats on this site.

1927

Charles Lindbergh tests The Spirit of St. Louis at Dutch Flats air field.

1920’s – 1940’s

The Dutch Flats air field, later known as Speer Airport. The Spirit of St. Louis was tested on this site by Lindbergh in 1927.

1970’s – 2012

Midway Post Office built and operated for 42 years. The post office headquarters was a 436,000 SF mail processing facility for all of the city of San Diego.

2017

Hammer Ventures purchases site to redevelop as a mixed-use urban coastal campus called THE POST.
